Our Approach

“One of the greatest challenges in the 21st century will be the mental and emotional health of people.“ - World Health Organization

We believe that we need a more formal and structured set of solutions to skill people up in overall wellness and resilience, therefore increasing their emotional intelligence. The framework we offer helps individuals and organisations to understand and manage their own stressors, perform capably, and strengthen their professional relationships for their personal wellbeing, as well as that of their organisation.

Increasing Our Emotional Intelligence

Based on the Six Seconds model of Emotional Intelligence, we have developed a structured, data-driven approach to helping people increase their EQ.

Workplace Mental Health

Seventy-seven percent of working professionals state they experience stress and burnout. The emotional well-being of workplaces envelops the majority of our days, percolating into our overall mental health. Leaders play a critical role in directing healthy working practices, and leaders who are under stress do not necessarily make the right choices for themselves or their organisations.

Workplaces need to focus on taking better care of their people by availing mental health training for more self-help, emotional regulation, and internal support mechanisms. As we spend the majority of our waking hours at our workplaces, mental health training must be integrated into all aspects of performance.

Emotional Literacy of our Young People

Suicide still remains the leading cause of death for youths aged between 10 and 29. The number of 10- to 29-year-olds who die every year due to suicide is between 73 and 106 — making up around 22 per cent of the total number of deaths by suicide in the same period.

More young people are seeking help for mental health issues. The number of young Singaporeans between the ages of 16 and 30 who sought help from IMH’s Community Health Assessment Team (Chat) from 2015 to 2017 had jumped by 190 per cent.

To tackle this early on, another sector we intend to focus on is schools, where we believe we need to teach our youth how to make sense of and process their emotional data in this increasingly complex world.

Our philosophies and programmes are grounded in the 6 Seconds Emotional Intelligence approach.
